Support Expiration Schedule

Please see the details below regarding the Platform and Feature releases, along with additional updates to our technical support practice. This will help as you determine which version of MicroStrategy is best for your enterprise.

Our mission in Technical Support is to help ensure the success of your business investment in MicroStrategy’s products. While working with you to resolve your technical issues, our goal is also to assist you in better understanding our product release cycle, new feature sets, and the upgrade process.

9.4.1 Update

We will be extending support for 9.4.1 through 2018. This is one of our most widely adopted versions and we're committed to your continued success with this version. Releases between 9.5 to 10.4 will be supported for 36 months from their release date.

Release types and scheduling

Effective Quarter 2, 2015, with MicroStrategy Version 10, we have moved to a quarterly release cadence. This pro-active change has enabled us to provide innovative improvements, feature enhancements, and quick-fixes in an agile fashion to better support you, our valued customer. The shortened release cycle has made it easier to address customer needs more quickly to optimize your investment. We do understand that it can be challenging for some customers to keep up with this prompt pace and determine when the best time to upgrade to a newer version of MicroStrategy for their enterprise. Therefore, we created two types of releases to meet this need – Platform releases and Feature releases.

Platform release

  • Interval: Every 18 months
  • Who: Entire customer base
  • What: Focus on production level security, stability, and performance defect fixes for all customers.
  • Expectation: Customer has chosen platform path and wants product stability without new enhancements.
  • Support: Three years, patches for approved P1 defects, and regular hot fix cadence addresses critical defects.

Feature Release

  • Interval: Every three months
  • Who: Customers with specific feature requirements.
  • What: New functionality developed in close collaboration with customers and customer council.
  • Expectation: Customer has chosen feature path, will consume further feature releases.
  • Support: Six months, patches for approved P1 defects, customers upgrade to next feature release for roll up fixes.

Migration resources

All customers with current maintenance plans are eligible to upgrade to equivalent products in the latest version. These products are available on the MicroStrategy Download Site for customers with valid MicroStrategy Support Site accounts.

Migration planning and implementation services are available through MicroStrategy Consulting and can be requested through your Account Manager. As the number of enhancements in newer MicroStrategy versions increases, migrating may become more challenging. Customers looking to move from a version that was released more than two years prior to the newest version should enlist MicroStrategy Consulting to help guide them through the migration.

If you have specific technical questions about upgrading your project, please contact MicroStrategy Technical Support. You may also visit the MicroStrategy Community and join the conversation on updating your MicroStrategy software.

*Note: Based on product release schedules, Technical Support may choose to modify expiration dates so that expiration occurs later than the dates published above. Dates will not be moved earlier than those posted above.
