What’s New in MicroStrategy 2020 Update 2: Part 1 - Modern Experiences for Everyone

MicroStrategy 2020 Update 2 delivers new capabilities for business users, analysts, and architects via a new MicroStrategy desktop application, enhancements to Dossier and HyperIntelligence, Expert. Now, and improvements to our data connectors and Workstation—to name a few.

In part one of this two-part MicroStrategy 2020 Update 2 blog post series, I want to focus on the features that deliver fast, simple analytics to users that consume MicroStrategy data: the new MicroStrategy application and enhancements to HyperIntelligence.

New MicroStrategy Application for macOS and Windows

When we released the MicroStrategy Library in MicroStrategy 2019, it marked a giant leap forward in the modernization of our platform. Via a web browser, the Library delivers a consumer-grade analytics experience for users with a simple tile-based user experience, search, collaboration, personalization, and recommendations.

For more than a year, users have been using the Library on their laptops with web browsers. But as we thought about how to continue to improve the Library and push the envelope of performance, we realized that these users were sitting on their laptops viewing Dossiers and Documents in their Library—but their computers were otherwise sitting idle and doing almost nothing, as Elon Musk shares in a relatable tweet. So we asked ourselves whether we could make the Library better if we leveraged the idle power of the desktop.

Enter a next-level viewing experience. Focused on frictionless consumption, this new MicroStrategy application for Windows and Mac brings the consumer-grade experience of the MicroStrategy Library to the desktop and leverages the power of idle compute to deliver a high-performance user experience that wasn’t possible via a web browser. Watch a quick demo below.

The new MicroStrategy application automatically synchronizes and caches commonly used Dossiers so that users get an ‘instant-on’ experience when opening and paging through a Dossier. With the new MicroStrategy application, we are ushering in a new era of modern, high-performance, smart analytics experiences on the desktop. But that’s not all in Update 2...

Enhanced HyperIntelligence Features

HyperIntelligence, the fastest growing product in MicroStrategy’s 30-year history, now has the ability to search for HyperIntelligence cards in the Chrome and Edge extensions—and the ability to share HyperIntelligence cards with colleagues.

Search in HyperWeb (for Chrome and Edge) allows users to type search terms to find HyperIntelligence cards. So now, in addition to HyperWeb automatically detecting keywords and suggesting cards, users can type in keywords to quickly find what they are looking for.

Oftentimes, users want to quickly share a HyperIntelligence Card with colleagues. The new sharing functionality allows them to do just that.

Update 2 also delivers on new Dossier features including enhanced formatting for compound grids and keyboard shortcuts for easier authoring workflows, smart labels for most visualizations to improve readability and design, plus more intuitive sharing options including the export of multiple grids and export to PDF in presentation mode. All in all, this update includes more than 150 customer-requested enhancements across the product portfolio.

In the next post, I'll share some of my favorite Update 2 enhancements around our open strategy, so stay tuned.
