From April 18-20, a total of 2,891 customers, partners, analysts, and employees came together for the biggest MicroStrategy World ever. We were joined by over 475 partners from around the globe, and got to hear directly from over 100 customer speakers. Attendees represented a diverse range of industries, with 22% of attendees from the technology industry, 14% from financial services, 11% from retail, 10% from healthcare, 9% from government, and 4% from the telecommunications industry.
From company and product updates, to training sessions and customer presentations, all the way to special networking events and parties, the three days were filled with learning and excitement. We wanted to take a moment to look back and share some of our favorite moments from our 20th year of MicroStrategy World.
World kicked off our first ever Women’s Networking Event, which brought together over 400 women from across the analytics industry. The female CIOs from George Mason University, the United States Postal Service, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and QueBIT, and the CEO of Omega World Travel spoke about the lessons they’ve learned throughout their careers, and shared advice with the rest of the women in the room. We closed out day one with a Welcome Reception which brought everyone together in the Exhibit Hall for networking and cocktails.
Day two started bright and early at 6:00am with the first 5K race at MicroStrategy World–sponsored by Datastrong and benefitting STEM For Her, a DC-based organization that builds awareness, excitement, and opportunities among girls and young women to pursue STEM-related careers. The winner crossed the finish line as the sun rose with a time of 18:36! Attendees then had some time to recuperate from the early morning workout before the first speakers took the stage for the general session.
In the main conference hall, our CEO Michael Saylor unveiled our upcoming report Critical Capabilities for the Enterprise. The report is designed to help companies navigate the many BI tools on the market and determine the best fit for them. It takes an in-depth look at each of MicroStrategy’s key capabilities, categorized across enterprise platform, enterprise analytics, enterprise mobility, embedded analytics, enterprise cloud, and enterprise IoT. Saylor also shared details on how we use our own platform at MicroStrategy, and spent time highlighting and thanking some of our amazing customers.
During the keynote, Michael Saylor also announced the new MicroStrategy Community, which will provide rich, contextual resources from MicroStrategy experts and our Advanced Product Support and Technology Teams. The new Community will help our users find the information they need to succeed with the platform in just a few clicks. Lastly, we announced MicroStrategy on AWS, a self-service tool that allows users to instantly deploy MicroStrategy environments without the help of IT. Coupled with MicroStrategy Cloud, our fully managed cloud option, MicroStrategy on AWS gives organizations the flexibility to choose how they deploy their MicroStrategy environments in the cloud.
To wrap up the day’s keynote, Susan Cook, our SVP of Sales, spearheaded a panel with Louise Bevan of Vodafone, Liza Masterson of John Hancock Retirement Plan Services, and Jonathan Bickel of Boston Children’s Hospital on how business intelligence has positively changed the way they work with their customers and patients.
Our CMO Mark Gambill opened the day’s keynote by giving a shout out to the STEM for Her 5K winners and runner-ups, and recognizing the winner of our annual dashboard contest. For the second year in a row, Alejandro Levin Pick, a Consulting Manager with Third I, Inc., captured the gold prize for his excellence in creating compelling data visualizations.
After the awards were given out, Danielle Ruppel, MicroStrategy’s Director of Federal Sales, took the stage to lead a government panel, which brought together Kristin Seaver of the United States Postal Service, Kris Rowley of the General Services Administration, Kirit Amin from the United States International Trade Commission, and Jim Watts from the Transportation Safety Administration. Each panelist spoke of the important role data plays in the public sector, and how MicroStrategy has helped their organizations.
Our CTO Tim Lang then took the stage to close out the day two keynote. During his presentation, he gave the audience a preview of Dossier and some of the improvements that future releases will bring to MicroStrategy. From new color palettes that were inspired by nature and designed to meet the needs of colorblind users, to natural language processing that makes it easy to find important information, all the way to version control so you can revert back to previous editions with a click, these improvements are centered around supporting and promoting agility and collaboration in the workplace.
Throughout the entire conference, we were blown away by our phenomenal customer speakers. With the most customer sessions of any MicroStrategy World yet, attendees were able to truly see the diverse range of ways people use MicroStrategy.
