How Branding Communicates Culture at MicroStrategy

At MicroStrategy, we're obsessed with providing our customers with powerful software solutions and expert services. Our headquarters is filled with subtle (and some not-so-subtle) reminders of that mission and our corporate culture. Read on to learn how we're using branding to bring it all together. 

Our founder and CEO, Michael J. Saylor, lives and breathes MicroStrategy. While he focuses on bringing his vision of 'Intelligence Everywhere' to life for our customers, my team of passionate designers have been hard at work bringing our corporate culture to life on the walls of our headquarters in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

We’ve spent the last 12 months rebranding our building and creating a blueprint for our offices around the globe highlighting our five core values: Engaged, Transparent, Cheerful, Agile, and Precise. As our Chief Marketing Officer, Mark Gambill noted, “we’ve declared 'Death to Drywall.' In short, we believe that everything in a work setting – whether it’s watercooler conversation, wall art, or mounted dashboards in a waiting area – should open up opportunities to promote greater transparency, agility, and cross-departmental coordination.”

We took a look at where we had opportunities to incorporate our brand and our values to create a sense of community. An obvious choice was our large conference room windows as seen below. On each floor, we created different graphics using our five values, which are prominently placed so they are the first thing you see when you step off the elevator. 

Branding is about more than just awareness in the marketplace, it's also about building something that lasts, and that people want to be a part of. Our efforts to incorporate branding throughout our offices is just the first step in a journey to making sure that our brand is felt throughout all aspects of our business.
