One of the big attractions at MicroStrategy World this year was a dashboard analyzing #MSTRWorld. The hashtag was on fire and we were analyzing the social data live.
There were over 2,400 people at the conference and hundreds more following the keynotes on the live stream that we offered. And they were tweeting — a lot. With about 3,100 tweets, MicroStrategy World generated an 80% increase in Twitter chat over last year. With all that extra noise, we wanted to share key insights from the community with those who didn’t have time to read the thousands of 140-character chirps.
In order to offer up insights on the fly, we partnered with DataSift to match their expertise in refining the fire hose of raw social data with the flexibility of Analytics Express. The partnership made it easy to deploy dashboards that could be refreshed on demand, and we presented them in Las Vegas — 2,400 miles from our Tysons Corner, Virginia headquarters.
The activity graph above shows surges of activity during the keynotes presentations. The folks at DataSift ran an entity extraction algorithm against each interaction and were able to highlight the key themes that prompted each.

Gleaning these kinds of insights was once a rather tedious and manual process, but thanks to the combination of DataSift and Analytics Express, we were able to refine it into digestible real-time visuals.
