From talking the talk to walking the walk, most organizations have a long way to go when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) adoption and a short time to get there in an era of digital Darwinism.
A recent MIT Sloan Management Review survey of 3,000 executives, managers and analysts shows that to date, just one in 20 organizations has extensively incorporated AI into its offerings and processes - and less than 39% have an AI strategy in place.
One of the biggest differences found between AI leaders and laggards lies in each organization’s approach to data. Early leaders already have analytics expertise and easy access to data to accelerate adoption. They also have or are investing in the human and technology resources to train AI, with a strong business case developed and support from senior leadership in place.
In its 8 Enterprise Analytics Trends to Watch in 2018, MicroStrategy has compiled top trends organizations should be focusing on from leading influencers in business intelligence, data analytics, and digital transformation. The first trend centers around AI initiatives and comes from Forrester Research VP and Principal Analyst Boris Evelson and Forrester Research Principal Analyst Michele Goetz.
They write in the Forrester blog that AI will reshape analytics and business innovation in the coming year but that, “2018 will be the year that CIOs will realize that new technologies like AI require hard work.
“Forward-looking organizations will create new roles and processes to take full advantage of them – not by simply shifting away from old architectures, but by redesigning their whole operating models to suit the new wave of technology.”
Forrester predicts that in 2018, a quarter of organizations will supplement point-and-click analytics with conversational user interfaces, and artificial intelligence will make decisions and provide real-time instructions at 20% of firms.
Will your organization be a part of that 20%?
