This year, we brought together five top executives from across the analytics industry to share their thoughts and perspectives on achieving high levels of success in technical fields. These inspirational women shared some of the hard lessons they’ve learned throughout their careers as well as some useful tips. Below are five (of the many) tips that were shared:

  • “Look for defining experiences throughout your career, and take advantage of moments where you can learn. Your career is not going to be perfect. Learn that mistakes are okay—reflect on them, and then move on. Don't be a lamenter.” - Kristin Seaver, CIO of United States Postal Service
  • “Be flexible, creative and have tenacity. I also grew over the course of my own career by getting to know others around me, and by having a genuine interest in people.” - Gloria Bohan, President and CEO of Omega World Travel
  • “From the moment you start working, focus on building teams and trust. As you grow, continue to bring people together and make sure you’re properly developing the people that work for you. It’ll pay off.” Marilyn T. Smith, CIO of George Mason University
  • “Remember to take chances, and also trust your intuition. Don't be afraid to say no to someone if you don’t agree with them or don’t think a task or project assigned to you will be valuable. We all need to stand up for ourselves.” Catherine Jirak, COO of QueBIT
  • “Lead with integrity and credibility—others will follow by your example. Also, don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. The path to success is not a straight path, so you’ll have to be open minded to the opportunities that come your way.” Pamela Dyson, CIO of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
