Year 1 - Our First Global Conference

Our very first global user event was held at the McLean Hilton, right around the corner from our Tysons Corner HQ.

Year 2 - DSS World

At our second user conference, we heard all about “decision-support systems”, or what we commonly refer to today as business intelligence. DSS World brought together our growing partner ecosystem and 1,200 people from hundreds of customer organizations. Our CEO, Michael J. Saylor, also started talking about something we can’t get enough of today: the power of personalization.

Year 3 - Intelligent Solutions for an Informed Century

1999 was focused on gearing up for the new millennium, and the theme was “‘Intelligent Solutions for an Informed Century.” Our third event included keynote addresses from guests outside the company, a “Solutions Exposition” with nearly a hundred customers and partners, and a range of educational sessions on the DSS product line. Seems like just yesterday!

Year 4 - Product Releases Galore

In 2000, the internet was becoming a regular part of people’s personal and business lives. At our fourth event, we made sure it was clear that our focus was on the power and future of the internet. We released—and allowed attendees to demo—MicroStrategy 7, MicroStrategy Web Business Analyzer, MicroStrategy Transactor, and MicroStrategy eCRM 7.

Year 5 - Our First Customer Awards

In 2002, we took time to recognize the companies that turn to us everyday: our customers. Winners of our customer awards program included Best Buy, Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, J.D. Power and Associates, and Sprint North Supply. It was the start of a tradition that was built to last—we’ve honored our customers at every World since.

Year 6 - Location Spotlight: Las Vegas, NV

Viva Las Vegas! For our lucky number 7, we decided to call this city of lights home for a few days.

Year 7 - Location Spotlight: Madrid, Spain

From 2003-2005, in addition to our U.S.-based World conferences, we decided to hold EuroWorld's — based in different cities across Europe. This year we took on Madrid, but other host cities included Milan, Italy and Bonn, Germany.

Year 8 - MicroStrategy 8 Launches

After two years of development, MicroStrategy 8 was unveiled live at World. In addition to highlighting our  brand-new, cutting-edge BI platform, we gave the crowd solutions and best practices they could take back to their organizations.

Year 9 - 1,000 Customers and 100 Sessions

In 2006, World brought together people from the over 1,000 companies, who were passionate about business intelligence and the power of data. With more than 100 sessions focused on educating our attendees, it was another incredible event for our customers.

Year 10 - 10 Year Anniversary

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary at the Wynn Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada. Featuring 25 customer-led sessions that highlighted all the different ways companies can increase revenue, reduce operational costs, and improve business performance with MicroStrategy.

Year 11 - Customer Awards Highlight

While 25 customers joined us to present case studies on how they use MicroStrategy, we took a moment to honor a few standouts, including: eBay, GEICO, U.S. Postal Service, Ryder, and Corporate Express US.

Year 12 - MicroStrategy 9 Launches

What better way to celebrate 2009 than with the launch of MicroStrategy 9? This year’s technical sessions allowed attendees to dive into the new product features and platform enhancements that were brought to life by MicroStrategy 9.

Year 13 - Location Spotlight: Cannes, France

In addition to hosting the a World event in Las Vegas, 2010 saw a MicroStrategy World event in Cannes, France. Forget about the Film Festival—maybe we’re biased, but we think we were the best conference in town this time around.

Year 14 - Mobile Continues to Grow

With tablets and smartphones taking over, our CEO Michael J. Saylor addressed a crowd of nearly 2,000 during a keynote focused on the MicroStrategy Mobile platform. Mobile is officially the new hot shot technology.

Year 15 - Riding the Mobile Wave

In 2012, Michael J. Saylor released The Mobile Wave: How Mobile Intelligence Will Change Everything, a New York Times best seller. During his keynote at World, Saylor provided a panoramic view of the future mobile world and the impact of mobile intelligence on businesses, industries, and economies. At the time, we didn’t know that nearly all of his predictions about mobile technology would come true in just a few years.

Year 16 - Location Spotlight: Barcelona, Spain

In addition to hosting World in Las Vegas, we also traveled abroad to the beautiful city of Barcelona in 2013. Between sessions from leading brands including Adobe, Coca-Cola Europe, DELL, Facebook, Société Générale, SWIFT, Telefónica UK, Wells Fargo, Yahoo!, and Zurich, attendees were able to take to the beaches and enjoy the flavorful nightlife of Spain.

Year 17 - Partnerships and Product Releases

2014 was a big year for partnership announcements and product releases. At our 17th World, CEO Michael J. Saylor took to the stage during his keynote to announce the company’s partnership with Amazon Web Services and officially introduce Usher.

Year 18 - Enterprise Analytics, Mobility, and Security

We had three major focuses in 2015—analytics, mobility and security—and brought those to life with an emphasis on a few of our products—MicroStrategy 9s, Usher, and Secure Cloud. We also heard from a brilliant group of keynote speakers, including leaders from USPS, Cisco Solutions, Amazon Web Services, NHS, IMS Health, and Target.

Year 19 - Location Spotlight: Miami, Florida

At MicroStrategy World 2016, thousands of customers, partners, and BI experts attended 160 educational sessions, participated in hands-on workshops and kicked off each day with inspiring keynotes. In between, they enjoyed some breaks in the Miami sunshine.

Year 20 - A Look Ahead

This year, we’re coming back to our roots. For the 20th anniversary of World, we’ll have a tremendous amount of technically-rich content, presented by incredible customers, key partners, inspirational keynote speakers, and MicroStrategy experts.
