Learn More About My Background

I am a graduate of Tulane University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in business.  I started working at MicroStrategy 11 years ago, focusing on our customers, in Technical Support. I also worked in our Cloud group where I administered large, global, security concious environments. I've brought the customer and enterprise-scale reference points into our Technology group to make our software easier to use, at scale.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

Streamlining the time taken to create a fully functioning MicroStrategy enviroment on windows from 300+ clicks and 8 hours to 21 clicks and 30 minutes (most of which is machine time).

Why MicroStrategy?

The people and the challenges. The people are positive, technology-driven individuals who are passionate about making a better product for our customers. The challenges vary on a day-to-day basis, providing a chance to learn and work with new technologies all the time.

Technologies Used

Keynote, Powerpoint, multi-color markers and a white board, Rally, Confluence, Slack, Skype, Microsoft Teams, Office 365

Learn More About My Background

I rejoined MicroStrategy in 2012 as a Software Engineer. Over the past year I've transitioned to a Product Owner - driving the development and delivery of the MicroStrategy REST server the fundimental service layer for all next generation applications.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

Over the past two years Ive been driving the design and development of our REST API interfaces, which is always done with the customer in mind. We develop with an SDK first approach, considering the extensibility of our implementations and how customers might leverage our APIs and SDKs to build powerful data driven applications.

Why MicroStrategy?

Both the technology, and the people who work on the technology. The MicroStrategy platform is utilized by some of the largest, global companies, which means we have to be flexible in usage and scale in all aspects. At MicroStrategy we foster a very collaborative environment, providing the opportunity to learn from engineers who have been designing and delivering enterprise code and aplications for many years. This type of environment allows newer engineers to grow very rapidly in their careers.

Learn More About My Background

I am a graduate of Virginia Tech where I studied Computer Science, and concentrated my studies in Operating Systems.  During my schooling, I had the opportunity to work several internships with responsibilities spanning Technical Writing, Windows Software Development, and DevOps.  I have been with MicroStrategy since January 2016 - my first job after college.  I am a member of the MicroStrategy on AWS team, which leverages DevOps and Cloud Technologies.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

Before productizing MicroStrategy on AWS for external customer use, we were using a third-party tool to orchestrate the configuration scripts which run on each environment during provisioning time. We knew we couldn’t bring the product to market with such a clunky and hard-to-manage tool, which needed constant babysitting and maintenance. Over time, we moved all the orchestration out of the third-party tool and into AWS by leveraging a mixture of CloudFormation, StepFunctions, and CodeDeploy. By making this move, not only did we eliminate our dependence on the third-party tool, but we also made it possible to fully productize our offering by hosting all of the orchestration in each customer’s AWS Account, allowing them to upgrade the architecture on their timeline, and to have transparency into the entire deployment process.

Why MicroStrategy?

I have the opportunity to work with a first-class Technology team and leverage the latest technologies. I work with passionate engineers that look for elegant and quality solutions to problems, not just code that “works”. Management is interested in the success of each engineer and is invested in providing a platform for innovation with the recent introduction of hackathons. I believe I make an impact on the product, and feel my entire management team cares about my individual success and development.

Learn More About My Background

I have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from ITESM and a Masters of Information Technology from Virginia Tech. During my ~18 years at MicroStrategy, I've worked in roles ranging from Quality Engineering, Product Management, and Release Management. I was a key team member in the creation of our Release Management group including one of the core testing infrastructures used to validate our servers, and product which helps customers validate data integrity, scalability and reliability of their systems.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

I spent time with a key customer, training them on how to validate their MicroStrategy environment.  Due to a critical business situation, we abondoned the original plan and participated in a war room troubleshooting a random functional problem manifesting in the MicroStrategy application. With experts from four different groups of the customer's organization (Network, IT, Application, Support), we performed a deep-dive analysis of the end to end workflows, including sniffing network packages. At the end, we identified that the customer's Websphere deployment had an improperly configured garbage collection for their useage - which was affecting their entire web system, not just MicroStrategy. Making this one configuration change resolved a painful probem the customer had been dealing with for almost six months. We couldn't have fixed this problem, without the strong partnership with our customer.

Why MicroStrategy?

There are two reasons why I work at MicroStrategy, the people and the challenges I get to tackle. There is nothing more rewarding to me, than working on extremely difficult challenges with some of the smartest and funniest people you know. It's very rewarding.

Learn More About My Background

I have a Masters in Product Design, and I started working at MicroStrategy four years ago.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

In the past 1.5 years I've been driving the design of the MicroStrategy Workstation, which is the next generation product that combines all the great functionalities of MicroStrategy platform. As an enterprise software, the workflow and interface has to be designed in a way that's simpe and elegent and at the same time scalable enough to meet the requirement of complex a enterprise grade security model. For me, it has been a very interesting challenge to balance between providing something that's user friendly and enterprise scalable.

Why MicroStrategy?

There are lots of smart people that I get to work with and learn from. MicroStrategy has offered me opportunities to work on various projects which allow me to improve my design thinking skills. MicroStrategy values User Experience Design. I was given the freedom to refine the detailed look and feel of a user interface as well as opportunities to explore the vision of the product.

With a Masters of Computer Engineering, I joined MicroStrategy in 1996 and helped to shape the Web architecture from the DSS Web 4.x release.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

The biggest problem that I solved was how to architect the MicroStrategy Web 7.5 release which introduced Java into our platform architecture. My challenge was how to provide customers with a rich form of customization wiithout providing source code for our implementation.

Why MicroStrategy?

MicroStrategy is the company that I've worked with the longest (over 19 years). I left to join a startup, but came back due to the strong technical talent we have.

Learn More About My Background

I joined Microstrategy almost two years ago. I have a Master’s degree in Business Administration in IT Management. I worked as a Business System Analyst in Technology for multiple other companies. In my last job, I switched my role to become a Scrum Master. I enjoy practicing and coaching best Scrum practices to the team members and strive to help them succeed by eliminating their risk and impediments.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

As a Scrum Master, one of my key roles is to work with the team and make sure that the committed work gets delivered iteratively. During this process, I sometimes get the privilege to work on customer issues and / or enhancements that are triaged by Product Owners and need to be delivered by the team. I have worked on critical customer request cases where I help to coordinate with the customer as well as team members and understand the business case along with helping the team on committing what they can deliver based on a balance between their capacity and plan estimate.  At MicroStrategy, I have helped several teams to have successful iterations / releases by helping them plan, commit and deliver based on the stakeholders requirements.

Why MicroStrategy?

Having worked in other places as a Scrum Master, I find that at MicroStategy , I get the opportunity and privilege to pursue any new ideas that I believe may help the team succeed. The executives are open to making changes if it works. Unlike other places, I am not tied to one team, but overall a division. This exposes me to many other opportunities that challenge me to improve and do better.

Learn More About My Background

I joined MicroStrategy in 2008 after working in the Telecom industry. I was part of the support team for 1.5 years and later joined the Technology team as a Software Engineer in Test. I've also been a Product Manager, where I worked on multiple products, leading the mobile and mapping capabiliities of the platform. In 2015, I decided to take an opportunity at another company, in a completely different industry but I missed MicroStrategy! I returned to our Technology team in 2016 to lead the development of our authoring products.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

I have worked on many interesting projects, so picking one is not that simple. There are some that are just easy to remember because of the effort spent on them and because of the value they brought to the MicroStrategy platform, and our customers. I was part of the Mobile team for a long time and worked on the first version of our Android app. I was also part of the migration from a hybrid app for iOS to a fully native app that has been recognized  as the best in the BI industry. I also worked to include out of the box mapping functionality in our platform - which opened a whole new set of workflows. During the past 1.5 years I worked with my team to revamp the experience of building content and this was a great opportunity to revisit many things that we have always wanted to improve. I feel particularly proud of my team for what they accomplished on this project as we have built the foundation for what will come in the next couple of years. Revamping these interfaces helped to fix several complaints our users have when building content.

Why MicroStrategy?

Two main reasons. One, because of the complex problems we have to work on every day to build a platform that is fully flexible so that it can meet needs from customers in many different industries. Two, because solving these problems with the group of people who work here is a fun, inspiring and challenging experience. The people here are always supportive and take the time to help each other so that we all are pushing for the same goals and moving in the same direction.

Technologies Used

Almost every component of the MicroStrategy platform. I work with our administration tools to set up environments, then on the authoring tools, which is the product owned by my team, and up to our consumption products like Library for Mobile and Web which is what our customers use to interact with the created content. I also use other external tools and software to help me on daily tasks like Apple's Keynote, Microsoft Office, HTML editors, Sketch and GitHub.

I was a Product Owner for three years. I was a Sales Engineer for Usher, in Dubai U.A.E or 1.5 years, and I've been Product Manager for Usher for the last year.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

Being one of the first 15 members of the Usher team. Helping to build a completely new product from scratch, taking it to market and general availability, moving to the Sales team to drive revenue and adoption, returning to Technology as a Product Manager. I love that I have been part of the complete product lifecycle.

Why MicroStrategy?

MicroStrategy continues to give me flexibility in career opportunities as well as new and exciting challenges to take on. I learned the fundamentals in bootcamp, allowing me to learn and grow through several rotations, and then settle on what I figured out I wanted to do (Product Management). I have a technical background with a Masters in Computer Science. I joined MicroStrategy in January 2017 as a Product Manager. I started my career at a company that is the leader in speech recognition based solutions - First as a data analyst transitioning over to product management in analytics.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

I think I am trying to solve the most interesting and challenging problem yet, at this very moment! As the product manager for MicroStrategy's self service data discovery tool called MicroStrategy Desktop, currently our adoption rates are low compared to our competitors. Through market reserach and collaboration with sales, marketing and engineering teams, we're working on improving our product's functionalities and user experience to increase adoption and market share.

Why MicroStrategy?

My personal interests are in Business Intelligence solutions and MicroStrategy is one of the leaders in the space. There is a lot of opportunity at the company for learning and growth. Independent analysts like Gartner and Forrester see tremendous market growth in data analytics, BI, AI and machine learning over the next several years. This industry isnt going anywhere.

This shows the potential for similar integrations in the future with the ability to innovate on the dashboard editing experience.

Learn More About My Background

I graduated from the University of New York at Binghamton with a Bachelors in Electronics and Telecommunications. I worked on AI projects for my Masters degree. After graduating, I joined MicroStrategy in 2016, as a SET on the Platforms team.

What is the most interesting customer / business problem that you've solved?

During a recent release, I worked closely with our Technical Support team, and a customer, to port a dashboard from our latest release to an older deployment (that) the customer was still using. This gave me detailed insights into different areas of the MicroStrategy products and the depth enterprise scale applications have. That knowledge has helped me in designing and executing test cases and automation which cover many different customer scenarios.

Why MicroStrategy?

I enjoy the challenges at MicroStrategy. I am encouraged to tackle hard business problems and push my boundaries. In my role, I am able to partner with customerss, and learning from them. In turn, I use that knowledge to improve our products. I also get to play with the latest technologies, such as Amazon AWS Cloud, Docker, etc., which keeps my skills current.
