Training
An education assessment is a consultation with a MicroStrategy educator to evaluate your training needs and create an approach to address them.
The assessment takes into consideration the job roles of those who need training. For example, we do the following for technical users:
- Assess proficiency with MicroStrategy and any dependent third-party technologies
- Uncover relevant knowledge gaps
- Identify a program of courses to close any gaps
- Set up the training timeline
And for business users, we do the following:
- Profile the community (size, location, types of users; learning behavior, and growth rate)
- Understand user adoption goals and challenges
- Identify what's needed (data vs. functional training) to meet the goals
- Decide which courses need to be customized
- Set up the training timeline, resources, and delivery methods
- Create a plan for post-training support
- Establish a way to measure effectiveness
During the assessment, we explain our education methodology; understand your project status, goals, and personnel profile; and make recommendations to be documented later in a training plan. Everything is based on the MicroStrategy products, versions, and levels of functionality you currently use.
Participants should include key stakeholders of your technical and end user communities, such as the project lead, project manager, business sponsor, end user representatives, and/or your internal training department.
Employees may waste time struggling with a new system if they aren't properly prepared to work with it. In extreme cases they may abandon the system entirely, forcing businesses to write off their investment.
Adoption Management is a dedicated, programmatic approach to change and adoption management. It helps you get more from your MicroStrategy investment by teaching your people how MicroStrategy products can support their efforts to improve business results.
As part of an Adoption Management solution, we work with you to do the following:
- Identify users' performance gaps
- Create a training plan that addresses leadership goals and user needs
- Customize curricula to reflect user roles and the customer's environment
- Instruct all power users using a variety of instructional techniques
- Offer self-paced tutorials to casual end users
- Provide on-the-job mentoring and support
- License courseware
- Assess users' post-training performance improvement
- Report on user readiness
- Provide overall project management
Benefits? Among technical and end users alike, you'll see greater productivity, deeper analyses, and more creative use of technology to address business challenges.
An Adoption Management engagement unfolds in three phases, as shown below.

Instructor-led Training
Two of the courses in our standard course catalog – Web for Reporters and Analysts and Web for Professionals – are specifically intended for business end users.
Web for Reporters and Analysts is a two-day course that covers functionality available to MicroStrategy Web™ users. Students learn how to perform basic and advanced analysis on reports and documents. They also learn about basic report creation. Students leave with a thorough understanding of the power and flexibility of the MicroStrategy Web interface.
Web for Professionals is a one-day course on designing reports in MicroStrategy Web. Students first learn about the Web Professional version of MicroStrategy Web. They then learn how to create reports, report filters, and prompts using Design Mode. The course covers the advanced report design features available in Web Professional.
Like our other instructor-led courses, individuals can take these classes online (via distance learning) or at one of our education centers. See the schedule for details.
MicroStrategy instructors also can conduct these classes at your location. These are called private classes and are a more economical solution if more than six people in your organization need training. Contact us for details.
For a more programmatic approach to end user training that includes change management and help incorporating MicroStrategy use in your business processes, please see our section on Adoption Management.
Self-Paced Tutorials
MicroStrategy offers a set of self-paced online tutorials on MicroStrategy Web functionality. They're for beginning to intermediate users who would like to learn how to read, analyze, and manipulate a pre-built report.
With these tutorials, a student can learn at his or her own pace. Topics are organized in modules. Each one can be completed in 20 minutes or less.
As an option, we can tailor the tutorials to reflect your own data, reports, and business terminology.
MicroStrategy Web tutorials are hosted on the MicroStrategy Learning Management System. As an option, we can integrate the tutorials into your organization's own learning management system (assuming it's SCORM- and 508-compliant).
We suggest certain courses of study for more technical users, depending on your role. Some include focus area certification exams and some don't. Students can take these courses in any order so long as a prerequisite has been completed.

We also offer certification programs for those who would like to learn how to develop and implement BI applications on the MicroStrategy platform. Certification offers third-party validation of your MicroStrategy knowledge and skills, an important credential for those interested in pursuing a BI career.
For those who expect to take more than five days of training in a year, we offer an economical alternative to paying for classes "á la carte." Please see the Perennial Education Pass section for details.
*Students can take Desktop: Reporting Essentials OR the Web for Reporters and Analysts and Web for Professionals courses as a prerequisite to the majority of the other courses.
