Analytics

Analytics are the capabilities for the investigation and measurement of an entity or unit. In Business Intelligence terms, analytics are sophisticated forms of quantifying business information.

Analytics are:

  • Quantitative
  • Based on existing data
  • Logical
  • Used in decision making
  • Mathematical, or statistical

Analytics and Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence Analytics cover business facts such as revenue, cost, and units sold, together with business attributes such as product, time, and geography. Based off these business facts, analytics include metrics which are simple (i.e. sum of units sold), or increasingly sophisticated (i.e. dimensional analyses of units sold by a geographic area, standard deviations over time periods).

Applications of Analytics in Business

Significant business value is derived from a broad application and deployment of business analytics; across multiple dimensions (e.g. geographical, organizational, time).
