Virtualogic to Expand Data Management Offerings Through Systems Integration Agreement with MicroStrategy

Partnership Provides Customers with Advanced Decision Support and Data Mining Expertise

BETHESDA, MD, June 29, 1998—Virtualogic announced today that it has joined the MicroStrategy DSS Partners™ Program as a Systems Integrator. Virtualogic is a rapidly growing regional integrator in the Washington, DC area, leading the mid-Atlantic region in Sybase and Microsoft implementation expertise. MicroStrategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) is the largest provider of relational on-line analytical processing (ROLAP) tools for Global 2000 companies, providing software that enables business users to conduct sophisticated analysis against large amounts of data.

As a MicroStrategy DSS partner, Virtualogic will extend its Enterprise Data Management (EDM) Practice to include MicroStrategy’s robust and highly scalable decision support software. Virtualogic’s EDM consultants will implement specialized MicroStrategy-related services, including data modeling, data acquisition, and DSS application development in its clients’ data warehousing projects.

Virtualogic will also use MicroStrategy technology in its highly successful SmartStart™ implementation methodology. SmartStart is a Virtualogic program designed to show prospective clients the benefits of data mining, data warehousing, and DSS through the implementation of a limited-scope pilot project. By using MicroStrategy technology in the SmartStart program, Virtualogic can quickly and effectively demonstrate its ability to provide customers with a complete DSS product architecture that has both decision support and data mining functionality.

"Our clients are eager to capitalize on the untapped value of their data resources, and they’ve shown an increasing interest in what Virtualogic can offer in terms of data warehousing strategy and architecture," said Christopher Eastman, manager of Virtualogic’s Enterprise Data Management Practice. "We believe that MicroStrategy is the only ROLAP vendor that provides both active and passive delivery of information through its comprehensive, integrated suite of products. We are excited about this partnership and have responded by expanding our offerings and by investing in the hiring and training of experienced data warehousing professionals."

Virtualogic has enrolled its consultants in MicroStrategy’s Certified Decision Support Engineer (MCDSE) Certification, a rigorous training program designed to provide partners with detailed knowledge of MicroStrategy’s entire product set, ensuring successful MicroStrategy software installation. "We’ve hired consultants who are familiar with MicroStrategy’s products and other well-qualified candidates for the MCDSE program. This training, coupled with our experience at Fannie Mae, General Motors, and Marriott, helps to round out a practical, proven approach to getting clients started with data warehousing and decision support," said Eastman.

The partnership with MicroStrategy also enables Virtualogic to increase its exposure beyond DC and the mid-Atlantic region. "After completing our sale to the EDS/Hitachi joint venture, we were ready to expand nationally. Virtualogic’s data warehousing and mining practice reported its second high growth quarter since its founding last year, giving us the signal to invest partnering resources into a nationally known and respected vendor, such as MicroStrategy. We like MicroStrategy’s fit with the types of clients we tend to win, and we believe in MicroStrategy’s vision for the business intelligence market," said Peter C. Johnson, Virtualogic’s president.

"With MicroStrategy’s cutting-edge technology to complement the experience of Virtualogic’s skilled systems integrators, Virtualogic should be a strong competitor on the national level," said Sanju K. Bansal, chief operating officer at MicroStrategy. "We believe that Virtualogic’s success in this region is a sign of excellent things to come."
