MicroStrategy and NCR Announce Value-Added Reseller Agreement
Partnership Results in Powerful Decision Support Solution Designed to Help E-Commerce Sites Increase Profits and Retain Customers
DSS WORLD, Washington, D.C., October 28, 1998 — MicroStrategy Incorporated (NASDAQ: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of mission-critical decision support systems, and NCR Corporation today announced that NCR has joined MicroStrategy’s DSS Partners™ program as a value-added reseller (VAR). Under the terms of the agreement, NCR will incorporate MicroStrategy’s product line, DSS Suite™, into one of its robust decision support data warehousing solutions designed for select target industries. MicroStrategy’s DSS Suite provides the OLAP interface for the NCR SmartEC Decisions solution that enables companies to collect information on how consumers are using their web sites and what value the Internet and its content are bringing to their businesses.
NCR’s SmartEC Decisions provides users with a powerful and easy-to-use decision support interface, enabling organizations to profile their customers, measure the effectiveness of online campaigns, and gauge the overall success of their electronic-commerce businesses. This information is essential for developing a customer relationship management strategy that allows companies to maximize profits and to address consumer needs via their web sites.
"Understanding the behavioral characteristics of customers visiting a web site is a key element in determining the return on investment for the site and helping a company better manage its customer relationships," said Jeff Jones, Assistant Vice President of Marketing, NCR’s National Accounts Solutions Group. "The more clearly a company understands its customers, the more successful that business will be in meeting customers’ expectations. SmartEC Decisions couples MicroStrategy’s DSS Suite of tools with NCR’s applications software, business services, and data warehousing platform to provide companies with the means to gain this understanding—thereby giving them a competitive edge in their e-commerce activities."
"The partnership between MicroStrategy and NCR is a natural one," said Sanju K. Bansal, Chief Operating Officer at MicroStrategy Incorporated. "By merging the MicroStrategy DSS Suite with NCR’s data warehouse technology and expertise, NCR has created an ideal decision support system for businesses to understand and respond to their customers’ needs. This is especially important as e-commerce plays a more prominent role as a key customer ‘touch-point.’ MicroStrategy and NCR have recognized these market needs and have responded with SmartEC Decisions."
