MicroStrategy Announces Support for HP’s New HP 9000 V2500 Enterprise Server for Terabyte-Sized Data Warehouse Environments

Decision Support Clients to Benefit from Server’s Enhanced Performance, Scalability and Availability

VIENNA, Va., December 8, 1998 — MicroStrategy® Incorporated (NASDAQ: MSTR), a leading worldwide provider of mission-critical decision support systems, today announced its support for the new HP 9000 V2500 Enterprise Server, introduced earlier today by Hewlett-Packard Company, a member of MicroStrategy’s DSS Partners™ Program. MicroStrategy’s product line, DSS Suite™, combined with the HP 9000 V2500 will provide joint customers with an architecture that can handle the most rigorous decision support demands of the Global 2000 business community.

The HP 9000 V2500 Enterprise Server will provide clients with maximum performance in terms of query processing, scalability and availability. The V2500 doubles HP’s current query performance and offers enhanced scalability, enabling it to efficiently process the analytical demands of MicroStrategy’s multi-terabyte customers. The V2500 has also been added to HP’s Mission Critical Server Suites, which provide uptime commitments of 99.95%.

"MicroStrategy and HP both attract customers requiring scalable business intelligence solutions that can accommodate the growth of their corporate user base and their data warehouse," said Sanju K. Bansal, executive vice president and chief operating officer of MicroStrategy Incorporated. "With the introduction of the V2500, HP delivers a reliable server that meets these scalability needs and also handles the in-depth analytics typical of MicroStrategy’s customers."

Earlier this year, MicroStrategy, a member of HP’s Open Warehouse alliance program, extended the reach of the data warehouse even further by delivering DSS Broadcaster™, the industry’s first Information Broadcast Server that leverages established and emerging communication channels to extend access to information throughout the enterprise and beyond. Through the delivery of e-broadcast services to users via e-mail, fax, pager and mobile phone, DSS Broadcaster is enabling organizations to target an entirely new group of users to their data warehouses. The applications require highly available systems and enhanced computing power like HP’s V2500 can provide.

"As a leader in the decision support marketplace, MicroStrategy is known for its clients’ large-scale data warehouse implementations," said Patrick Rogers, worldwide marketing manager for HP’s High Performance Systems Division. "With the introduction of DSS Broadcaster, MicroStrategy customers need the right infrastructure to broadcast information throughout and beyond large organizations. Our joint customers will find that the HP 9000 V2500 Enterprise Server is well-suited for the sophisticated processing necessary in its clients’ multi-terabyte, multi-thousand-user business intelligence environments."

MicroStrategy and HP are planning joint marketing and sales efforts targeting the ERP business intelligence and micro-merchandising applications in the retail industry over the coming year.
