Direct Access
to Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDWs)
MicroStrategy Desktop allows
users to create reports that access the full depth and breadth
of the largest EDWs. MicroStrategy technology accomplishes this
through a highly proprietary and highly optimized SQL Engine that
dynamically creates new optimized SQL whenever a report is run,
or whenever a user drills anywhere back into the data warehouse
(unless, of course, the needed data is already in cache from a
prior users request).

Direct Access to SAP Business Information
Warehouse (BW)
The MicroStrategy platform incorporates a dynamic
data access engine designed to access multi-dimensional databases
(MDDBs or OLAP Cube Databases) such as those from SAP Business
Information Warehouse (BW) databases. This new Dynamic MDX Engine
generates optimized MDX syntax that is fully certified with SAP
BW using SAPs high performance
BAPI interfaces. The dynamically generated MDX uses the multidimensional
models implicit in SAP InfoCubes, QueryCubes, and ODS allowing
users to transparently drill back into SAP BW for more data, without
any prior programming or prior design of drill paths. With MicroStrategy
Desktop, users can create reports that access SAP data, join data
across SAP BW Infocubes and QueryCubes, as well as access multiple
instances of SAP BW at once.

Direct Access to Operational Data
MicroStrategy
Desktop offers an Operational SQL Engine that lets users include
data from any operational system using completely free-form SQL,
including stored procedures and views. This extends the MicroStrategy
metadata architecture to instantly include attributes and facts
accessed directly from non-modeled databases on a query-by-query
basis. With the Query Builder interface, users familiar with the
source database tables and columns can define ad-hoc queries, and
the Query Builder can generate SQL to access data directly from any
operational system.

Join Data from
Heterogeneous Databases from Across the Enterprise
The MicroStrategy
platform offers greater data modeling flexibility, including integrated
views of data across heterogeneous data stores. By mapping conforming
dimensions from different sources within the object model, the MicroStrategy
platform can automatically join data from multiple sources in the same
report document. Data can come from any source accessible by MicroStrategy,
including the data warehouse, data marts, SAP BW and any number of operational
system databases.

Intuitive Layout
The intuitive
layout of MicroStrategy Desktop mimics the familiar look and feel
of Microsoft®
Windows Explorer. End users are instantly familiar with common
shortcut bars and right mouse click functions. As a result, users
get up to speed in no time.

Comprehensive Reporting Views
MicroStrategy
Desktop displays reports in several different views, including cross-tabulated
grids, charts, graphs, customized HTML or the optimized SQL generated
by the analytical engine. Exceptional formatting, totaling and printing
capabilities make it easy to create attractive reports. Users can create
documents for formatting, displaying and distributing multiple reports
with presentation-quality features such as text, images, hyperlinks
and tables. All reports exist on a shared metadata, equally available
in MicroStrategy Desktop and over the Web. As a result, end users can
share their insight with others in data-rich reports.

Guided User Workflow for Analysis
MicroStrategy
Desktop's guided workflow directs users through a series of analyses
that is most appropriate for them. Based on predefined options,
users can run a key business report, drill down to another level
of detail, or drill across to another report that has supporting
business information. These navigation paths can be customized
for any part of a report, giving the ultimate flexibility in defining
user workflow. Intelligent Cubes and prompts enable ad hoc
report modification at run-time. Users can select predefined report
objects and apply filtering criteria, giving a unique view each
time the report is executed without the need to create new reports.

Full Range of Analytical Functions
MicroStrategy
Desktop provides access to MicroStrategy Intelligence Server's more
than 240 mathematical, OLAP, statistical and financial functions
for use in any of the key performance indicators used in your organization.
Additionally, users can create custom groupings of data elements
for their reports. These custom groups allow users to view logical
data groupings that may not be defined in the data warehouse.
