MicroStrategy Data Mining Services
MicroStrategy Data Mining Services is a fully integrated component of the MicroStrategy BI platform that delivers the results of predictive models to all users in familiar, highly formatted, and interactive reports and documents. It empowers business users to leverage sophisticated predictive models that describe the likelihood of a future event. Data Mining Services allows organizations to use predictive functions that are natively available with MicroStrategy, or import models from third-party data mining vendors.
With Data Mining Services, users can access highly formatted, data-rich, predictive reports through all the user interfaces supported by the MicroStrategy BI platform, as well as perform standard report manipulations and create new reports on the fly. Data Mining Services extends the reach of the traditional data mining insight by incorporating the scoring process on-demand in a single BI platform.
MicroStrategy is the first to deliver data mining and predictive analysis to all users through a fully integrated, enterprise-caliber BI platform. Using Data Mining Services, business users, report designers and analysts alike can view and build predictive reports using MicroStrategy and distribute these reports to all relevant decision makers and stakeholders.

Business
users can create & view predictive reports, just as they
would with any other MicroStrategy report.
An example of an out-of-the-box
MicroStrategy data mining function is the multiple regression model,
which supports linear, logarithmic and exponential regression between
several independent variables and a dependent variable. This allows
business users to create and view richly formatted reports with forecasted
numbers. The PMML for this new predictive metric is automatically
generated by MicroStrategy and can be exported and used in other
data mining tools for further tuning and analysis after which it
can be imported back into MicroStrategy.

Supports Predictive Model Markup
Language (PMML) |
A key innovation
that enables the integration of data mining models with
other applications is the automatic conversion of a predictive
model stored in Predictive Model Markup Language into an
algorithm that is used by a metric in MicroStrategy. PMML
is an XML standard that represents data mining models developed
and trained by data mining tools. This industry standard
was developed by the Data Mining Group (DMG), an independent
group of over two dozen leading technology companies, including
MicroStrategy. PMML supports a number of different data
mining algorithms and incorporates data transformation
and descriptive statistics. PMML is generated by nearly
all data mining tools from companies such as SAS®, SPSS®, Microsoft®, Oracle®, IBM®,
Quadstone and others. MicroStrategy is the first BI platform
to support the PMML standard and, by allowing predictive
metrics to be accessible by all users in the enterprise,
data mining for the masses is possible.

Integrating Data Mining with MicroStrategy
Business Intelligence Platform |
IT departments are realizing the tremendous value that integrated data mining and business intelligence applications can bring to their organizations. Data that was once only in the hands of data mining experts is now required by relevant decision makers, managers and stakeholders to help make better decisions. The integration of data mining's predictive analysis with BI applications in the MicroStrategy platform results in easy-to-consume, highly formatted, and powerful predictive models that are easily integrated with business intelligence reports and analyses. MicroStrategy allows organizations to support all three scenarios of integration, irrespective of whether the model is created and executed by the data mining product, database management system, or whether the model is developed by the data mining tool or database and executed by the MicroStrategy platform. Once the model has been imported into MicroStrategy, it can be used in calculations and displayed in all user interfaces supported by the MicroStrategy BI platform, enabling decision makers to have access to advanced predictive analytics, applied within their everyday reports.

Rich Analytic Library |
MicroStrategy contains a library of more than 250 basic, OLAP, mathematical, financial and statistical functions that can be used to create business metrics and key performance indicators. Other capabilities such as set analysis to determine relationships between data elements, and transformations to include time series analysis can be used in conjunction with the function library to provide rich insight without the need for a specialized third-party data-mining tool.
