May 2009 Distance Learning Changes
New online marketplace for book orders
Convenient
You place your book orders via an easy-to-use website. You control when you need your books with the click of a button.
Timely
You are in control of when your course manuals arrive, so if you register in advance, you can get your books in advance to prepare for class.
Beginning with distance learning classes that start May 4, students will order their own manual for the courses enrolled so it arrives when you want it to. Once confirmed for class, you will get instructions on how to order your course manual via this website. MicroStrategy will pay for the printing of the manual(s), but students will pay for the shipping of their manual(s). Instead of waiting for us to send you the books, you will be able to pick the delivery format and cost based on your desired delivery date. Please note that manuals will NOT be provided to you the day of class in electronic form if you do not order your book in time for the start of class. Your registration will be verified prior to the shipment of manuals to ensure you are ordering the correct manual for only the class(es) in which are you are enrolled.
Two-way audio through computers
Improved Audio
The instructor’s voice will be clearer using the audio features of LiveMeeting versus an independent teleconference line. There will be less distractions from other participants via this method.
More Scalable
You no longer need to be connected to a phone to participate in a Distance Learning course. Streaming audio provides you the immediacy you need for learning.
MicroStrategy Distance Learning courses are moving from a teleconference phone line to having the class audio conducted through Live Meeting and your computer. When you log into the Live Meeting session, your computer will automatically initiate the audio part of the course. (Make sure that your computer’s volume is not on mute). If you want to speak during the class, you will need to use a headset with a microphone. Possible headsets to consider». Please note that we are not endorsing specific brands, but these are good samples to consider. If you prefer not to purchase a headset, you can enter any of your questions in Live Meeting’s chat feature. You will still be able to hear the instructor through your computer.
