Position Summary: Location in either Ottawa or Montreal
Basic Function: A Sales Engineer at MicroStrategy plays an integral role in sales of our enterprise class software. Sales Engineers work closely with sales teams to manage existing clients and to cultivate prospective clients
Job Duties (include but not limited to):
- Complete software demonstrations and presentation of the MicroStrategy platform with demonstrations that range from standard to custom demonstrations
- Implement entire suite of MicroStrategy software in rapid deployment and proof of concept scenarios where customers or prospects evaluate in a live or development environment
- Constantly learn and develop expertise in MicroStrategy software
- Must maintain expertise as new releases of MicroStrategy software become available
- Mentor and set example for Sales Engineers who are junior in title or tenure
- Deliver free Introduction to Business Intelligence course to clients on a quarterly basis and actively attract attendees to this event
- Maintain regular communication with all clients
- Arrange and conduct face-to-face client meetings on a regular basis
- Generate referrals and leads for MicroStrategy professional services
- Attend MicroStrategy user conferences and other events while actively attracting clients to these events
- Track activity in MicroStrategy's internal sales management systems
- Travel varies by geographic territory, but can be up to 25%. On occasion, proofs-of-concept can be held at customer locations causing volatility in this travel expectation
Job Requirements:
- The Senior Sales Engineer role demands individuals who are self-motivated and who are comfortable and responsible in a position that grants autonomy
- Senior Sales Engineers must be able to achieve success with little management or guidance and must provide guidance to junior colleagues
- Proven or demonstrably outstanding presentation skills
- Ability to articulate complex topics to novice or technical audience
- Proven or demonstrably outstanding speaking and writing skills
- Ability to translate technical advantages into business benefits
- Polished and professional in both appearance, personal interaction, and all communications
- Demonstrable understanding of relational database management systems (RDBMS) and comfort with SQL
- BS/BA Degree in MIS, Computer Science or technical field or equivalent experience; MBA a plus
- 4-8 years experience in a customer facing role, whether sales, training or other
- Successful completion of MicroStrategy certification program upon employment
- Experience with Business Intelligence systems or relational database management systems a major plus
- Sales Engineers at MicroStrategy must possess a very broad and deep level of knowledge and understanding of the MicroStrategy suite in order to effectively position and convey the merits of the platform to customers and prospects.
- Experience in an equivalent role for a technology firm a major plus
- Proficiency in technologies which are complementary to MicroStrategy software a plus, particularly: .NET or JSP, Java, UNIX or Linux, Windows, Security, XML/XSL, DHTML
