Basic Function: A Business Intelligence Engineer is part of a team responsible for the architecture, development and maintenance of a companywide Business Intelligence System that provides business insight through enterprise reporting to decision-makers at all organization levels and functions by delivering accurate, timely and actionable information. One of the main responsibilities of this position is to apply data warehousing principles and business analysis skills in the translation of business requirements into information delivery solutions. The position reports to the Manager of Business Intelligence.
Job Duties (include but not limited to):
- Communicate with system users worldwide from key business groups, including Finance, Sales, Tech Support, Human Resources, Consulting, Education and Marketing to gather project requirements and business insight, perform feasibility analysis and manage expectations. Engineers are responsible for communicating with project sponsors and stakeholders during the entire life cycle of a reporting project. A key measure of success in this position will be to timely and accurately meet project milestones and deliverables as agreed upon all key
- Apply advanced data modeling and physical database design concepts in the architecture of a relational data warehouse for OLAP reporting.
- Design and develop advanced ETL jobs and routines to process data from multiple sources into a centralized warehouse.
- Manage the deployment and administration of the MicroStrategy Business Intelligence platform in support of Enterprise Reporting functions
- Perform database optimization activities to maximize database query performance and system stability
- Prepare ad-hoc queries against different data source systems
- Apply project management body of knowledge at all stages of the life cycle of an enterprise reporting project
- Provide detailed documentation of enterprise reporting project
- Define and implement data security as appropriate
- Apply Quality Assurance methods to ensure that information provided to business users is accurate and actionable.
- Contribute to periodic projects related to the maintenance of reporting system components outside of regular business hours
Job Requirements:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- SQL programming knowledge in MS SQL Server 2000/2005/2008
- Proven knowledge of data warehousing principles
- Experience with MicroStrategy or other Business Intelligence applications is a plus
- Experience with IBM/Ascential Datastage or Informatica
- Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong aspiration to learn new technologies
- Proven ability to interpret business requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Proactive and Creative
- Ability to multi task in a dynamic environment
- Enjoy working in a team environment
- Project Management Certification like PMP is a plus
